After describing the performance against Lincoln United as “rubbish” Frickley Athletic manager Spencer Fearn has promised the players will be working hard in training to try to ensure they bounce back at home to Romulus.
The Blues went into last weekend’s game against lowly Lincoln in brilliant form, but missed a chance to climb up to second in the Evo-Stik First Division South as they came home bitterly disappointed after suffering a 2-1 defeat. Now they face bottom of the table opponents and Fearn will not accept any repeats this Saturday.
He said: “There’s no excuses and we’ve got to put it right when we play Romulus at home.
“We’ve been on a fantastic run and the last three games we’ve had clean sheets, but the standards weren’t there this time and that’s the disappointing thing for everybody.
“We’ll be training hard to get ready for next Saturday, but I’m really disappointed and the lads certainly are. They know they have not represented the club as they should do.
“The second half was a bit better, but not to the standard we’ve come to expect. But that’s football, we have good times and bad times, it’s how we bounce back next Saturday that’s important.”
On the performance at Lincoln, Fearn said: “It was absolute rubbish. We’ve had a couple of bad performances, but the first half was right up there.
“Second half we were a bit better, we’ve got back into it and it only looked like one team was going to win, but we gave a really sloppy goal away towards the end.
“It’s really disappointing. We’ve been on a fantastic run.
“I was speaking last week about how hard the lads worked, but they didn’t do it in the first 45 minutes.
“What you can’t do is turn up at any team in any sport and expect just by turning up you’re going to win.”
