Frickley Athletic are keeping everything crossed for star striker Gavin Allott to be passed fit for the Blues’ season opener at Stamford on Saturday (kick-off 3pm).
Allott, who was top scorer for the South Elmsall side last season and attracted the interest of other clubs, has missed a number of the Blues’ pre-season fixtures through a groin and lower abdominal injury.
He will take part in Frickley’s penultimate training session tonight before Saturday’s big kick-off and Blues boss Karl Rose says he will have no problem in starting the striker if he comes through training in good shape.
“Gav will train with us and we’ll assess how he is,” he said.
“He’s had a problem with his groin and lower abdominal area which has kept him out for a number of weeks but we’re hoping he’ll be fine to come through training with us.
“Hopefully he’ll put himself in contention and I should think he’ll start Saturday’s game if he’s fit.”
Allott has been absent from the Blues’ pre-season friendly matches since the 3-0 victory over Shaw Lane Aquaforce at the end of July.
Jason Yates partnered Luke Hinsley in attack for Frickley’s final friendly clash of the summer against North Ferriby United at the weekend and the pair could continue at Stamford if Allott is not ready.
Jimmy Ghaichem returned from holiday with a virus but Rose is expecting the midfielder to be fit and ready for Saturday.
