A fantastic comeback from two down sealed by a Richard Collier winner three minutes from time saw Hemsworth MW beat Maltby Main to leapfrog them into fifth place in the Premier Division of the Toolstation NCE League.

After winning their previous four league games in good style Wayne Benn’s men looked in real danger of slipping up on home soil as their big strong visitors were quick out of the blocks.

Dean Conway took just six minutes to put Maltby ahead and was on target again 10 minutes later to give Wells a mountain to climb.

They dug in, however, and were back in the contest when Nash Connolly pulled a goal back before half-time.

Connolly’s second, with a smart finish, levelled the game eight minutes after the break and Wells played some of their best football of the season against opponents who had won three of their previous four matches.

They were finally rewarded in the 87th minute when earning a penalty. Although Collier’s spot kick was kept out he followed up to score the winner.

Hemsworth were quickly back in action in the second round of the NCE League Cup on Tuesday night at home to Hallam and produced a superb first half display on the way to a 4-2 win.

Danny Critchlow, Nash Connolly (two) and Brad Dockerty were all on target in the first half with Hallam scoring twice in the last 10 minutes.

Hemsworth will be looking to climb further in the Premier Division this Saturday when away to second from bottom Parkgate.
