FRICKLEY Athletic put Saturday’s Evo-Stik Premier Division loss to Marine behind them with a 1-0 victory over North Ferriby United last night, Tuesday.
The hosts dominated the first half and James Ashmore went close to breaking the deadlock but his 25-yard free-kick was deflected behind.
Former Frickley stopper Adam Nicklin did well to save another Ashmore free-kick but the resulting corner led to the breakthrough for the hosts with 30 minutes of the half played.
Lincoln Adams was fouled in the box as the corner was delivered and Ashmore stepped up to convert from the penalty spot.
Ollie Ryan, Adams and Peter Knox all went close to extending the lead but United, managed by former Athletic boss Billy Heath, fought back on the resumption and should have equalised when Wayne Brooksby fired wide in front of an open goal.
The hosts regained the upper hand as the game wore on however and the dismissal of Nathan Peat for head-butting a home player with six minutes remaining finally ended United’s hopes.
