Frickley Athletic will go into next season without their top scorer for the past three seasons after confirming that Gavin Allott has left the club.

The prolific scoring forward has joined ambitious Barnsley club Shaw Lane Aquaforce, who have just been promoted to the Evo-Stik League after finishing as champions of the Northern Counties East League.

The 29-year-old has scored 88 goals for Frickley during his three-year spell at Westfield Lane, making him ninth in the club’s list of all-time goalscorers.

He will be a big miss for the Blues, but the club thank Allott for his efforts while at the club and wish him well in the future.

Frickley will now be on the lookout for a player who can find the net with regularity, but have signed up promising young striker Reece Thompson after he impressed last season following his move from NCE League side Retford United in October.

The Blues’ home friendly against a Barnsley XI, meanwhile, has been brought forward 24 hours and new pre-season matches are set to be played against Ossett Town, North Ferriby United and Winterton Rangers.

Frickley will now host Barnsley at Westfield Lane on Tuesday, July 28, kick-off 7pm.

They will travel to play John Reed’s Ossett Town on Saturday, August 8, kick-off 3pm with this being the last pre-season game before the Evo-Stik League season kicks off a week later.

An away friendly in the North East has been pencilled in for Saturday, July 11, but this has yet to be confirmed, while a home friendly against Billy Heath and ‘Bobby’ Carroll’s FA Trophy winning North Ferriby United will take place at Westfield Lane on Saturday, August 1, kick-off 3pm.

An away friendly at Winterton Rangers is also to be confirmed and two more pre-season games against Football League opposition have been agreed with one due to be confirmed and announced this week.

The Blues’ other already confirmed friendly is against a Hull City XI on Saturday, July 18.

Redevelopment work at the Westfield Lane ground is due to being next Monday.

Work was originally scheduled to have begun during this month, but a delay with results of soil samples has pushed the start back slightly.

The club are now just under £6,400 short of its £50,000 fundraising target towards the redevelopment. If you can help towards this, contact chairman Gareth Dando on
