Castleford Tigers players are back training at the Mend-A-Hose Jungle this week after five days being put through their paces by Marines in Devon.

Head coach Daryl Powell described the stay with the Marines as a big success and said it was a great team bonding exercise as well as having several other benefits.

He said: “It was a great trip, we were there from Monday until Friday and it was a pretty good week.

“All the squad travelled down, apart from Ryan Boyle, whose wife had a baby pretty much while we were away.

“It was a bit of a mix training-wise and the players worked very hard, particularly in the early part. There was a great attitude by the players.

“They had some down time as well and did a bit of surfing, which was a little bit different.

“I thought the guys down there were superb with the boys. It was a good experience and something we got a fair bit out of.

“We got a great opportunity to listen to someone who had been in the Marines for 30 years and went through some tough times and came out of them as a stronger person.

“It was good for team bonding. It was about mentality of the group and pulling together from a team perspective.

“It was a really good quality experience all round.”
