Castleford Tigers have been approved as an official RFL England Rugby League Player Development Partner.
With a number of coach and player development initiatives planned for 2014 aligned to the RFL’s ‘Embed the Pathway project’ the Tigers are looking to create a stronger connection with the local community game.
Tigers head coach Daryl Powell said: “As a club we want to see as many local young players as possible progressing from our scholarship and academy environments into the first team.
“In order for this to happen we as a club need to do as much as possible to support community club environments and pass on best practice in order to help develop local coaches, which in turn will help develop better players.”
With a Tigers community club coaching resource, monthly coaching workshops, the launch of under 13s and 14s player development centres and visits to community clubs in order to support club coaches all planned for next year, it looks to be an exciting time for the local community game.
RFL National Player Development Manager Tony Fretwell said: “On behalf of the RFL Performance Department I am delighted to award Castleford Tigers accreditation as an England Rugby League Player Development Partner.
“Embed the Pathway is a vital part of our objective of raising standards of coaching in our community game to support the development of players of all standards from the community game to England seniors. It forms a significant part of the Player Development Policy.
“Darren Higgins and Pete Riding have worked exceptionally hard with the RFL to put together an exciting programme for the next 12 months to serve the game in the community of Castleford and surrounding areas. They have put a plan together to support every community club and local schools and we look forward to seeing the realisation of this in the coming months.”
