Castleford Tigers boss Daryl Powell will be counting his troops before naming his side to face in-form Hull KR at the Mend-A-Hose Jungle on Saturday.

The short turn round after two games over Easter is set to put a further strain on the Tigers’ squad with at least six first teamers set to be missing.

Full-back Luke Dorn and forward Matt Cook added to the injury list when they picked up knocks at Warrington on Monday while Junior Moors, Jake Webster, Mike McMeeken and Denny Solomona missed the game and remain on the sidelines for the Hull KR match.

Head coach Powell has had some good news, however, with prop Lee Jewitt expected to be fit to play his first game of the season and he is hopeful fellow forwards Oliver Holmes and Nathan Massey will be available after sustaining injuries over the Easter period.

And whoever eventually gets the nod to play Powell is backing them to do a good job as did the players that came in at Warrington on Monday.

Young forward Will Maher and fit again Frankie Mariano came in for their first game of the season while Jordan Tansey started on the wing, Michael Channing came in at centre and Ben Roberts played at half-back. All were praised for their display in a 22-14 win.

Powell told the Express: “The players who came in all did well. Wherever people are stepping in at the moment they are starting to do the job really well.

“We just can’t seem to be able to hold our squad depth at the moment. We just get a couple back then lose another couple to injury. It’s pretty frustrating.

“Luke Dorn got a hamstring injury and we’re not too sure how bad it is yet until he’s had a scan. His leg extended and he’s torn it at the bottom of his hamstring and it doesn’t look great to be honest. It’s going to be a few weeks out, which minimises our options obviously.

“Matt Cook’s done what’s known as a syndesmosis, which is an ankle injury. We thought he had broken it at first. He needs a scan as well and they are not great injuries, they can take a fair bit of time.

“It’s tough on him as he’s just been getting back, getting his fitness and playing well.

“Nathan Massey got a knock to his chest, but I’m hoping he’ll be okay. He went back on and it was a tough effort from him to do that.

“Jake Webster is going to have a scan next Monday after getting a head injury against Leeds so he will not be available this weekend.

“We’ll have a look at our injury situation as we get through the week. We’ve got limited options and don’t have a massive amount of players, but there will be at least two changes with Cook and Dorn definitely out.

“Obviously Liam Finn didn’t play on Monday nor Ashley Gibson, James Clare and Steve Crossley. They should all be available and we’ve got Lee Jewitt potentially back, which will be good for us.

“The boys aren’t in until today so we’ll see how they feel before picking the side.”
