Castleford Tigers will aim to stay in the chase for a Super League top-four spot in tonight’s (Thursday) vital home game against Widnes Vikings
The Tigers have home advantage in four of their remaining six matches before the season splits into the Super Eights so their form at the Mend-A-Hose Jungle will be a key factor in the next few weeks.
“It’s a good opportunity for us on Thursday to get two points against a team that are around us in the table. We need to tidy up our home form a little bit,” Tigers coach Daryl Powell told The Express.
“Home form is important to us and we’ve been a bit patchy at home.
“We’d like our home form to be a bit better so we’ve got a good opportunity over the last six games to put that right, starting on Thursday.
“Widnes will be pretty desperate. It will be a vital game for them as well so it’s really important we put together a performance that’s good enough to get the points.
“The top four teams are a bit further ahead than we’d want them to be but I think based on what has happened to us we’ve done really well. I think the key now is we just need to kick on and keep putting solid performances together.
“We want to build on some of the positive things we have been doing over the last five weeks and put together an 80 minute display.”
With three wins in the last four games, Powell is pleased with the way his side is shaping up ahead of a crucial spell in the season.
“We’ve had had some really good solid performances where we’ve been difficult to beat and our defence has generally been better and had some real steel to it,” he added.
“I thought we we were unlucky against Wigan and last week we were tough to get the result at Huddersfield. We haven’t won there often so it was good to do that.”
Powell has made one change to the squad that won 30-22 at Huddersfield. Larne Patrick, who has signed a three-year contract at Castleford, returns in place of Ryan Hampshire. The squad is:
Matt Cook, Ben Crooks, Luke Dorn, Paddy Flynn, Luke Gale, Lee Jewitt, Will Maher, Nathan Massey, Mike mcMeeken, Paul McShane, Grant Millington, Adam Milner, Junior Moors, Joel Monaghan, Larne Patrick, Gadwin Springer, Denny Solomona, Danny Tickle, Jake Webster.
