Castleford Tigers have signed Irish International back row forward Tyrone McCarthy on a one-month loan deal.

McCarthy, 25, joins from Warrington Wolves where he has made four first team appearances this year.

He said: “It is a massive opportunity for me to get some Super League game time and to hopefully pick up a bit of form. We’re going into a World Cup at the end of the season and I want to be playing at the highest level. I’m grateful to Cas for giving me this opportunity and I aim to repay them with performances.”

Temporary head coach Danny Orr said: “It is really good that we have had the chance to bring another quality player into the squad. It will be good for the team to have a new face around the place.

“Tyrone will bring a positive attitude; he gives us a bit of depth as he can play second row as well as loose forward. He comes from a successful club at Warrington.”

Chief executive Steve Gill added: “Tyrone was a player I had noticed wasn’t currently playing in the Warrington first team and so made a few inquiries and spoke to Simon Moran while he was in New York. I’d like to thank Simon for giving us permission to speak to Tyrone who I believe would be playing regularly in their first team if they hadn’t been so injury free as they have been this year.

“The terms of the deal mean that Tyrone will be with us until after the Magic Weekend. If everything goes well we could look to extend it.”

McCarthy is likely to make his debut at home against Hull KR on Sunday.
