NICKY Platt denied Frickley Athletic a famous win at FC United of Manchester on Saturday with a last-minute equaliser for the hosts.
The Blues, who’d beaten the Gigg Lane club in South Elmsall on Tuesday night in the Doodson Sport Cup, led 2-0 but couldn’t hold off the home attack for the three points.
Things started well for Peter Rinkcavage’s men in front of the 1,700-plus crowd when Danny South was fouled in the box and James Ashmore drilled home the penalty just four minutes in.
It got even better just before the half-hour mark when Ashmore added his second, a superb 35-yard free-kick to leave United stunned.
Ollie Ryan had two good chances either side of half-time to further extend Frickley’s lead but the hosts pulled a goal back on 62 minutes through Carlos Roca.
Karl Marginson’s side threw everything but the proverbial kitchen sink at the Frickley defence in the latter stages but the Blues looked set to hang-on for a big win until the final minute when Platt struck the leveller.
