FRICKLEY Athletic brought their preparations for the forthcoming season to a close with a 3-1 victory at Wakefield FC.
Mark Whitehouse, Leon Henry and Bradley Grayson grabbed the goals for the Blues at Ossett Town’s Stade France ground, where Wakefield will play their home matches this season.
The Bears grabbed a late consolation goal but it wasn’t enough to dampen a productive day for Peter Rinkcavage and his men just a week before the big Evo-Stik Premier League kick-off.
It took the visitors just eight minutes to break the deadlock when Whitehouse headed in a Danny Walsh cross.
The hosts, who play in Division 1 North, had the chance of an instant reply just two minutes later but Danny South saw his effort well saved by Adam Billard in the Frickley goal.
The Blues suffered a blow on 20 minutes when Lincoln Adams was taken off with an injury, Charles Fisher coming on to replace him.
Chances came at both ends and Ashley Longstaff came close for the Blues while Chris Hilton blazed an effort over the bar at the other end.
Frickley made six changes at the interval but they maintained their pressure on the Wakefield goal with Grayson beating the offside trap and firing an effort just wide.
The Bears still looked dangerous and Stuart Ludlam had to be alert to divert a Lawrence Hunter effort off the line and keep the Blues’ lead in tact.
And the visitors went on to double their advantage in the 69th minute. Henry made a probing run down the left before finding the back of the net with a neat angled drive.
It was 3-0 not long after as Grayson showed his pace and skill to round Wakefield stopper Jan Zolna and slot the ball into the empty net.
The home side continued to push forward and they were rewarded in the last minute when Paddy McGuire forced the ball over the line from a corner,
