FRICKLEY Athletic boss Karl Rose has revealed the club is in talks with Doncaster Rovers to arrange a pre-season friendly.
Rose is keen to pit what is set to be a new-look Blues side against Football League opposition this summer.
And a date with npower League 1 side Rovers could be just the tonic.
“We’re currently in discussions with a number of clubs regarding friendly matches,” he confirmed.
“I know Steve Pennock [secretary] is talking to Doncaster about a game and hopefully we can sort that one out.
“We’ve also approached Barnsley and they said no initially but we’ll go back to them and try to sort something out.
“It’d be great to get two or three games against Football League opposition and we’ll be working towards that.”
No opponents have been confirmed as yet but Rose hopes the first friendly match will be played on Saturday, July 21, with matches every Tuesday and Saturday thereafter until the start of the new Evo-Stik Premier League season.
He said: “You usually start planning your pre-season matches in February or March but I’ve not been able to do that so it’s been difficult [to arrange friendly games].”
“We’ve been talking to lots of clubs both in the Football League and the non-league and trying to make up for a bit of lost time.”
The Blues hope to have their first pre-season summer fixtures penned in next week.
