TWO die-hard Frickley Athletic fans have set-up a new club to help raise money for the Blues.
Brothers Maurice and Cliff Lacey have formed the ‘Super Blues Club’ with the aim of raising £1000 to sponsor all the matchballs for home league games next season.
The Blues brothers set-up the club at a recent supporters’ meeting and hope Frickley fans will chip-in with £10 to join the scheme and help the Evo-Stik Premier League club in what’s a difficult time for non-league clubs.
“Everyone knows there are ever-rising costs to run a football club,” said 64-year-old Maurice, a season-ticket holder for the last six years since returning to the area.
“We’re doing this to help the club and hopefully we’ll be able to get around 120 people to pledge £10.
“Some people have asked me what they get for their money, well they’ll get the satisfaction of helping out their football club.
“We’ve sponsored a couple of players before but nothing like this. We’re just doing out bit to help out the club we support.”
The brothers hope to raise the money in time for the start of next season and will set the ball rolling at Saturday’s home game against Hednesford Town.
They’ll be sat in the main stand at the Tech5 Stadium, surrounded by ‘Super Blues Club’ flags and will be encouraging people to sign-up for the remainder of Frickley’s home league and cup games and pre-season matches.
