FRICKLEY Athletic manager Karl Rose is pleased with the progress made since his appointment as Blues boss last month.

The former Goole AFC manager has been working hard to make up for lost time in preparing his squad for the 2012-13 Evo-Stik Premier League campaign.

Rose has been speaking with his current squad and potential new recruits as he looks to build a competitive squad for next term.

“We’re at a more advanced stag than I thought we’d be,” he revealed.

“I’m pleased with how things are going but it’s a funny time of the year as far as squad building goes.

“I’m happy this week but I know that could all change next week if players get better offers to go elsewhere.”

One major plus has been striker Danny South’s commitment to the Blues cause.

Rose has spoke with the former Wakefield FC man and South has opted to remain at Westfield Lane instead of taking a more lucrative move to big-spending North Ferriby United.

“Danny has said he’s going to stay,” said Rose.

“I’ve known him from when he was at Wakefield FC, I tried to sign him at Goole but he opted for the step up with Frickley.

“He scored goals in a losing team last season which is a good sign and he’s a strong lad who’s a real trier and he’ll fit into the way we play.

“Everybody thought he was going to North Ferriby when I arrived here so it’s a great thing for the club that he’s decided to stay.”

One player who has moved to Billy Heath’s North Ferriby is Mark Gray.

The defender follows Stuart Ludlam out of the club and Rose expects more to follow, saying that “less than half” of last season’s squad are expected to report for pre-season training.

“They’ll be a bit of an exodus,” he said,

“I’ve got nine or ten players lined up to come in and 15 or so more that I’m looking at.”

The club has taken up the one-year option to keep Kelvin Bleau in South Elmsall next season but Danny Walsh is expected to retire from playing due to work commitments.

The Blues will start pre-season training on Tuesday, July 3.
