FRICKLEY Athletic battled hard to take a deserved share of the spoils in a feisty clash with promotion-chasing Northwich Victoria at the Tech5 Stadium on Saturday.

In a game where the blustery conditions ruined the contest as a spectacle, both sides finished the game with ten men after Frickley’s Lincoln Adams and Northwich’s Tom Field were sent-off for violent conduct midway through the first half.

Victoria came into the game with off-the-field problems after their management team left last week following notification that the club must vacate the Victoria Stadium.

Chances were at a premium throughout but it was Frickley stopper Stephen Dickinson who was the busier of the goalkeepers with Field, Nathan Woolfe and Ryan Wade all flashing early efforts on goal for the visitors.

A tough but fair challenge from Stuart Ludlam sparked the incident that saw Adams and Field dismissed and nearly all 22 players on the pitch get involved in the 23rd minute.

The Blues struggled to carve out many chances with Grant Darley testing Ben Hinchcliffe, the Northwich goalkeeper, from 25 yards.

Brad Grayson, Peter Knox and Darley all tried to find the decisive goal for Peter Rinkcavage’s men but it didn’t come for either side as defences finished on top.

There was a further blow for Frickley with just five minutes to go, however, when Grayson was stretchered off through injury.
