FRICKLEY Athletic will go into their marquee summer friendly against Barnsley on Wednesday on the back of a 2-0 defeat against Hall Road Rangers.

The Blues host the Reds at the Tech5 Stadium as part of their preparations for the new Evo-Stik Premier League campaign and a bumper crowd is expected for the visit of the npower Championship side.

Peter Rinkcavage, the Frickley manager, will be looking for an improvement on the pitch after seeing his side fall to defeat against Rangers on Saturday.

A goal in each half proved enough for the hosts, managed by former Blues boss Billy Heath, as both sides battled against adverse weather conditions.

The Blues had former Doncaster Rovers stopper Jordan Bradshaw in goal as stand-in for Ben Simpson, who will be sidelined for a number of weeks through a knee injury, while Rinkcavage rang the changes at the interval to give as many of his squad as possible a run out.

The hosts took the lead in fortunate circumstances just before the half-hour mark when a shot deflected off James Ashmore and looped over Bradshaw into the back of the net.

Frickley had chances to level but they couldn’t take them and Tom Taylor lashed in Rangers’ second just before the hour mark to complete the scoring.

The Blues will aim to bounce back when a Tykes XI visit South Elmsall on Wednesday, kick-off 7pm.

Admission is priced £6 for adults, £4 for concessions and £2 for under-16s.
