GAVIN Allott struck twice in three minutes to guide Frickley Athletic to their first Evo-Stik Premier Division win of the season on Tuesday night.

The Blues came from behind to defeat Ilkeston FC 2-1 at Westfield Lane and secure a long-awaited first three points of the campaign.

It took time for the home side to get into gear, Chris Wood threading a ball through to Allott in the 13th minute but he fired wide, while a free-kick by Terry Barwick seven minutes later was blocked and Indy Aujla was just off target with the rebound from 15 yards.

Town soon came more into exchanges with Will McCall having a strong shot well held by Woodhead in the 22nd minute, and former Frickley forward Jack Watts rattled the bar with a first-time drive a minute later.

The home goal bore a charmed life on the half-hour when McCall and Matt Richards both had efforts come back off the woodwork, and another two shots were diverted away by defenders.

Dion Chambers beat Woodhead but saw his shot come back off the bar before Ilkeston went ahead in the 40th minute, skipper Richards breaking through four tackles before drilling in an angled 15-yard shot.

Lee Stratford replaced defender Milan Redei at the interval as the home side continued to soak up pressure, Woodhead denying Daryll Thomas with a fine save in the 53rd minute.

A 35 yard free-kick by Barwick was held at the second attempt by Town keeper Ashley Timms in the 56th minute. But he was beaten six minutes later when a shot by Wood rebounded to Allott, who slotted it into the net from ten yards.

Before Ilkeston could recover, a long clearance by Woodhead was controlled by Allott who flicked it past the advancing stopper to put Frickley in front after 64 minutes.

Town finished strongly, Ryan Wilson striking the bar with a 73rd minute free-kick, while Woodhead made a superb, point-black save to foil Thomas after 87 minute to preserve the home advantage.
