Children in Havercroft put their creative side to the test when they were asked to design a new logo for a voluntary group.

The youngsters came up with a number of creative designs for the Parents’ Forum - a group that is based at Havercroft Children’s Centre on Cow Lane.

The group is run by parents and supporters of the centre who apply for community funding to provide activity sessions for local families.

The winner of the competition, which was supported by Wakefield and District Housing, was Jade Balme, 11. Tia Geldard and Holly Spink were the runners-up.

The winners - who were chosen by WDH’s area manager Joanne Smith and members of the forum’s advisory board - were revealed at a presentation at the centre last month.

The children received certificates and prizes.

The logo will now be used on a T-shirt for the group’s volunteers and on Parents’ Forum publications and leaflets.

Joanne Smith, WDH’s area manager, said: “We are really proud to be able to support thriving community groups such as Havercroft Children’s Centre Parents’ Forum, and opportunities like this are an excellent opportunity for us to work together.”

Jeff Allinson, chairman of the centre’s advisory board, said: “WDH really take an active part in our work and come up with some really good ideas to help us. Without their help we really wouldn’t be able to do all the things we’re able to do.”
