A FITZWILLIAM woman died after falling down some stairs following a night drinking with friends.
Pauline Stephenson, of Kinsley House Crescent, was at a neighbour’s home - within the same block of flats - enjoying drinks on April 28, when she decided she wanted to go home.
Wakefield Coroners’ Court heard on Friday that Miss Stephenson fell down three or fours steps, causing the injury to her head. An ambulance was called but she died two days later at Pinderfields Hospital.
Pathologist Dr Phillip Lumb said the injury was compatible with a fall down several stairs.
He said: “She had a high blood to alcohol concentration and would be vulnerable to accidental tumbles.
“The head injury was untreatable and catastrophic.”
Jayne Melrose, coroner’s officer, read a witness statement from Miss Stephenson’s daughter, Adele Marie Stephenson, who said her mum had a history of drinking problems following the death of her partner in 2009.
Deputy coroner Melanie Williamson recorded a verdict of accidental death.
