Hemsworth MW emulated their feat of 2015 as they reached the second round proper of the Buildbase FA Vase with a battling victory over Kirby Muxloe.
Jed Wilkinson’s goal after 69 minutes proved enough to take Wayne Benn’s men through 1-0 against their Leicester-based opponents who play in the United Counties League.
Once again the Wells defence proved outstanding and they could have won by a bigger margin as they created several chances.
They started well with Sam Jones going close in the opening minute from Cameron Clark’s cross.
Jack Steers missed with a free header in the box when he came forward from a corner while also in the first half Nick Guest shot just wide and Wilkinson was denied by a good save from the home keeper.
Guest came even closer to opening the scoring early in the second half with a shot from 25 yards out that hit the post.
Another near thing for Guest followed after a great run by Brice Tiani, but Wells finally had the goal their play deserved when Wilkinson netted.
They then played out the remainder well enough to clinch their place in the second round, which will be played on Saturday, November 12.
This Saturday Hemsworth are in action in the Toolstation NCE Premier at home to Athersley Recreation (3pm) and next Tuesday they are away to Pickering Town (7.45pm).
