Two lanes remain closed on the M1 southbound after a smash involving 12 cars.
Police were called to the motorway at 7.50am today (Thursday).
The incident happened on the southbound carriageway between junction 38, at Woolley, and junction 37, at Dodworth.
Traffic is now queued back to junction 39, at Durkar.
Emergency services are still on the scene and the outside two lanes remain closed.
Police are using the hard shoulder and inside lane to keep traffic flowing.
On Twitter William David said it had taken him nearly two hours to travel between Carr Gate and Woolley.
And Alex Brook tweeted a picture of the incident along with the message: “On m1 to work big old crash hope everyone is ok #m1crash #notgood.”
