Teenage business owner Niall McGuckin says he’s “lost everything” after thieves raided his e-cigarette shop.
Mr McGuckin, 19, of Carleton, Pontefract, has been forced to close his E-Cig Wizard store, on Market Street, Hemsworth, after thieves raided the shop some time between Tuesday, April 21 and the morning of Thursday, April 23.
Mr McGuckin, who only opened the store in November, said: “It’s absolutely gutting to be honest. I just can’t believe that somebody would actually do something like that.
“When I finished at college I decided against university and thought I would set up my own business.
“I put absolutely everything I’d got into it and now I’ve lost it all. They took all of the stock and even took the till.”
Mr McGuckin said the thieves broke caging on the windows before smashing through into the shop.
He added: “Since Christmas business has really picked up and last week was my best week in terms of takings.
“I honestly don’t know if or when I’ll be able to reopen.
“I’m waiting to see what the insurance say but, not only did they take everything, they absolutely trashed the place.”
Former Pontefract NEW College student Mr McGuckin said he thought the thieves may have planned the attack as the store is closed on a Wednesday.
He added: “I came in to the mess on Thursday morning and I was just gutted.
“I think they might have seen the shop as a bit of an easy target if I’m honest.”
Mr McGuckin also thanked people who had bought stuff from the shop since it opened last year.
He added: “The community of Hemsworth have been really supportive and the business had just started to really get going.
“I’d like to thank all of the customers who have come in over the past few months for their support.”
