The Express has launched its Christmas Toy Appeal 2014 to make sure the festive season is a happy time for all children across the south east of the district.
The aim is to make sure every youngster across Hemsworth and South Elmsall has at least one gift under the tree on Christmas morning.
Today’s launch was supported by South Kirkby and Moorthorpe Town Council, which is providing a drop off points for donations at The Grove, Stockingate, South Kirkby.
We are asking our readers to donate a new gift for children aged from newborn to 17.
The toys will be donated to Wakefield Council’s family services team in Hemsworth and distributed to needy and neglected children throughout the area.
Toys can also be dropped off at the Hemsworth Town Council Community Centre on Bullenshaw Road, Hemsworth, and the Westfield Centre, Westfield Lane, South Elmsall.
Gemma Jimmison, appeal co-ordinator, said: “Christmas is my favourite time of the year but for some children, who don’t have a present under the tree, it can be one of the saddest times of the year.
“We want to make sure that doesn’t happen to any youngster in the Hemsworth and South Elmsall Express area with our annual toy appeal.
“It doesn’t matter what size the gift is or how much it cost - please just donate what you can and help make Christmas special for every child.”
Gifts should be unwrapped so that family services can distribute them to the right child.
The closing date for donations is 5pm on Friday, December 12.
