As ever, the New Union’s event was compared by Miss Blanche, who introduced acts includingthe Jane McDonald Journey, Jan George and Bears Aloud.

It was opened by the deputy leader of Wakefield Council, Coun Denise Jeffery and The Mayor of Wakefield, Coun Brian Holmes.

Artists from the Ben Manning Music Foundation provided the entertainment at the Rainbow. The charity was founded in memory of Ben Manning, a 17-year-old musician who drowned in the city after a night out in January 2011.

DJ Madam Nikoal provided the tunes at the Harewood Arms and the whole day was rounded off with a city centre parade.
