Residents can still object to A1 link road name

PROPOSED names for the Hemsworth-A1 link road and access road still have to be approved by local magistrates.

Wakefield Council agreed on Sprockhoevel Way for the £24m link road and Avenue Lodeve for the access road between Hemsworth Road and the link road.

But a South Kirkby woman is urging residents to object to the magistrates’ court.

June Harrison said it was ridiculous that the council had agreed on foreign names for the local streets.

She could only find one notice on a busy roundabout where it was illegal for traffic to stop.

A council spokeswoman said: “Under Section 18 of The Public Health Act 1925 notices must be posted at each end of the street.

“The law does not require advertisements in the local press. Notices were placed on site on the March 1 along the roads affected.”

Objections can be sent to the Justice Clerk, Pontefract Magistrates Court, 2 Front Street, Pontefract, WF8 1BW, before Monday, March 28.
