CHILDREN at Havercroft Junior and Infant School got some hints and tips when a reporter dropped into their school for a lesson on news writing.
Year six pupils at the school had been writing news stories themselves and looking at newspapers as part of their Making the News topic.
And Express reporter Sam Cooper gave the budding writers a talk on his role, how he got into the media and some of the stories he had covered.
Year six teacher Bev Corcoran said: “The visit gave the children a real insight into what it takes to become a journalist and how Sam makes our local news every week.
“The children said they found it interesting and wrote brilliant accounts about the visit from Sam.
“Who knows we may have a future journalist amongst our Y6 pupils at Havercroft.”
The youngsters will also visit the National Media Museum in Bradford next month to see the future of news making.
Mr Cooper said: “It was great to see so many children interested in newspapers and what being a reporter involves.
“I really enjoyed talking to them and they asked some good questions too.”
