A series of Remembrance Day parades is taking place on Sunday.
The Hemsworth service will begin at the Hemsworth Town Council Community Centre, Bullenshaw Road, at 9.30am. It will set off at 9.40am and proceed to St Helen’s Church, Cross Hill, for a 10am service.
The South Elmsall parade will begin at the United Services Club, Chapel Lane, at 10.30am. The procession will then go to the War Memorial, Barnsley Road, where there will be a two-minutes silence at 11am and a cross and wreath-laying ceremony. A service will be held at St Mary’s Church, Doncaster Road, at around 11.15am.
The annual Festival of Remembrance will be held in Wakefield Cathedral from 7pm on Friday, November 8, and there will be a wreath-laying service at Wakefield Cenotaph at 11am on Sunday.
Poppies will be on sale in shops, supermarkets, pubs and clubs throughout the towns until Sunday.
