FATHER Anthony Fenton, parish priest at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hemsworth and Our Lady of Graces, Kinsley, is inviting all who may not have been into the church for some time to "come back to mass".
Fr Fenton said that people stopped attending mass for all sorts of reasons – they simply drifted away, were baptised as a Catholic but were never really part of the family of the church, felt unworthy because of something they had done or had suffered a marriage breakdown.
He said: “If you have been away for a long time you may find the church today is very different.
“Whatever the reason you left, please come back to church and join in your parish community. We miss you. You are a vital part of God’s family and we want you to come home to your Christian family, the church.
“Have a fresh look at it and give it another go. No matter how long you have been away, you will be very warmly welcomed, by the Lord and his church.”
Easter services at the Sacred Heart are: the Palm Sunday mass at 10.30am which includes the blessing of palms; the Maundy Thursday mass of the Lord’s Supper at 7pm on March 20; the Liturgy of the Lord’s Passion at 3pm on Good Friday; the Holy Saturday’s vigil and first mass of the Resurrection at 7pm, and Easter Sunday mass at 10.30am.
