‘Potentially fatal’ early morning fire tackled
Police are investigating a suspicious fire in Featherstone in the early hours of Sunday morning.
A row of 11 wheelie bins propped up against houses on Verner Street were set alight on Verner Street at around 4.15am.
Crews from Pontefract and Castleford Fire Stations attended the scene to extinguish the blaze. There were no injuries.

Hide AdHowever, Watch Commander Darren Wales, from Pontefract Station, said he believed the fire was started deliberately.
He said: “There was a potential loss of life here because the bins were standing against the houses.
“We have passed the matter onto police who’ve said they will make some enquiries today.”
