Campaigners are continuing their fight for a new swimming pool in the south east - two years after Minsthorpe pool closed.

Minsthorpe Pool Action Group (MPAG) thinks ‘little progress has been made’ since the pool shut on April 15, 2013. A replacement pool is planned at Minsthorpe Community College but it won’t be up and running until at least autumn 2016.

David Fitzgerald, MPAG spokesman, said: “MPAG is still actively pushing for a satisfactory outcome on behalf of the residents of the south east. We are meeting the head of the college to discuss our concerns.”

Karen Collins, service director for culture and sport, said: “This is a major scheme and, in common with other schemes on this scale, it involves working through several different stages.

“We are in discussions with Minsthorpe College to discuss plans around the tendering process and construction work.

“Architects will be drawing up detailed plans of how the pool will look. Once this stage is completed there will be an opportunity for all residents and groups to come and take a look at the designs and share their views.”
