PLANS are being put in place for a family gala in Hemsworth next year.

A committee has been set up, which has already set a date and venue.

And Hemsworth Community Gala Committee are now arranging which stalls and entertainment to include.

Committee chairman, Stephen Probert, said: “We used to have council funded galas in the village in the late 80s and early 90s but like a lot of other things that stopped because of lack of funding.

“So we got a group of us together and decided to take on the challenge of hosting the event ourselves.”

The gala, which is set to be held on August 11 next year, will see entertainment and stalls for all the family.

And the group have a fundraising event for the event next month.

Seven bands will play in an all-day event at the Alpha Club, Hemsworth om Saturday, November 17, at 2pm. Tickets cost £5. All proceeds will go towards funding the gala, which will be held at Hemsworth Arts and Community College.

Mr Probert added: “We are hoping to put on a community gala for community people. As much as we can we want to use the local community groups and businesses in Hemsworth and surrounding areas.”

Mr Probert also said they would like to hear from any local businesses who would like to offer a raffle prize.
