Planning permission given to turn pub into flats

Planning permission has been approved to convert a Wakefield pub into flats.

The Horse and Groom pub at Horse Race End near Heath could now become six flats despite residents’ concerns about losing the oldest pub in the village.

Planning officers said the pub’s owners argued that despite significant investment the bar was “not a sustainable business in any form of public house or restaurant”.

They said the venue was draining the resources of the owners.
