children got on board a pirate ship and hoisted the Jolly Roger skull flag as part of a pirate fancy dress day.
The foundation year pupils at Upton Primary School learnt how pirates lived, the different parts of the ship, and how to defend it.
The day of dress up was part of a history project that saw a visit from Histrionics, a scheme that visits schools in the area with interactive history workshops.
David Cooper, of Histrionics, said: “It was a good day for them, we had a really positive response and they really got involved.
“It’s providing historical entertainment education where the children learn things as they go along with the games.”
