Former fan favourite Lee Morris is set for his first league game back at Frickley Athletic after returning to the club as the new manager to succeed Karl Rose who quit last week.

The Blues have turned to someone who is regarded as one of the best players in their history with Morris quitting as Goole AFC boss to take up the job of reviving fortunes at Westfield Lane.

He faces a big task with Frickley currently bottom of the Evo-Stik Premier League, having lost all their opening six matches, but chairman Gareth Dando is confident he has got the man to get the Blues ticking again.

He said: “We’re happy to welcome Lee back to the club and hope he has a long and successful stay with us.

“He fits the mould we were looking for, being young, hungry and with plenty of contacts at all levels of the game.

“He’s got excellent man management skills and huge experience of local non league football.

“The fact he knows the club should help him settle in the role quickly and we’re sure he’ll be a success in building a stronger squad and pushing us up the table. I’m excited that he’s chosen to come to the club and if he gives us half of the joy that he gave us a striker then we’re looking at happy days.”

Morris’s first league game is away to Hednesford Town this Saturday (3pm) with a home game quickly following against Workington next Tuesday (7.45pm).
