Author Frank English has released a new novel called ‘Jack The Lad’.
The book is the first in a series of coal mining books by the retired teacher who grew up in Normanton.
Mr English said: “I am a Wakefield-born author who has written and published seven books of fantastic adventure for children of all ages over the last five years or so.
“I was a teacher for almost forty years, before retiring from the classroom in 2006.
“I have recently finished a tale for adults based loosely in reality, that traces the fortunes of the Ingles family in the West Riding coal fields around Wakefield from the mid-1940s.
“It’s called “Jack the Lad”, the first volume follows Jack Ingles as he grows up in a difficult environment, which proves to be all-too common in the area in which he lives.
“Within the mining community in general and within this family in particular, conflict is an everyday fact of life that Jack has to live and deal with in his push towards an independence of his own choosing.”
The second instalment, ‘Jack’, is expected to be published at the end of this year.
‘Jack the Lad’, costs £8.99. It is available to buy from www.frankenglish.co.uk where you can find out more about Frank’s books.
