AN INSPIRATIONAL couple have turned their lives around after jointly losing nearly 11 stones.
Alison and Mick Ward, of Willow Drive, Havercroft, were both unhappy with their weight after years of eating unhealthy takeaways.
Mr Ward’s parents both died due to the effects of being overweight so he decided to make the change once and for all to ensure he could see his three children grow up.
Determined to lead a healthier lifestyle, the pair joined Slimming World in February 2011 and swapped fatty takeaways, convenience foods and sugary snacks for healthy meals made from scratch with lots of vegetables and fruit.
Mr Ward lost eight stones five and a half pounds and Mrs Ward dropped two stones six pounds – a total of ten stones 11 and a half pounds.
Mrs Ward, 44, who dropped from 13 stones three pounds, to 10 stones 11 pounds, said: “We didn’t have much of a social life so would just stay in with a bottle of wine and a takeaway as a treat so the weight just crept on.”
Mr Ward, who dropped from 23 stones, four and a half pounds, to 14 stones, 13 pounds said: “I think when you’re in a happy relationship it’s easy for your weight to creep up.
“We loved cosy nights in with a takeaway or going out for meals together. Before we knew it our clothes were tight and our weight was getting us both down.”
The slimmed-down couple now exercise regularly going for walks together and having Wii Fit competitions at home.
Mrs Ward said: “As a family we are eating healthier and have more energy. It’s just fantastic. I am really proud of what we have achieved. There’s no going back now.”
The couple have been named among the nation’s 27 Slimmers of the Year by Slimming World.
