Theatre Royal Wakefield has announced the name of the executive director who will take the helm when long-standing leader Murray Edwards leaves next year.
Executive director Mr Edwards retires after 18 years at the theatre in January.
His replacement will be Katie Town, who is currently general manager of the learning department at The National Theatre on London’s South Bank.
Ms Town, who is originally from Northallerton, has also worked at the Royal Opera House.
She said: “It is a very exciting time to be joining Theatre Royal Wakefield. The theatre is in a very strong position, achieved by the commitment of the dedicated team of staff and an active group of volunteers.
“Having celebrated the theatre’s 120th anniversary it is now time to build on this position and take the theatre into its next 120 years.”
Chair of the board of trustees Dennis Gillibrand welcomed the news of Ms Town’s appointment.
He said: “We are all very grateful to Murray. He has led the theatre for 18 years and he and his management team have built it up so that it is now recognised as one of the top cultural destinations in the district.
“Katie is not only the ideal person to build on these foundations, she is also extremely experienced in theatre development and will be able to explore new and innovative areas of work.”
