Men jailed for soldiers murder

FIVE men have been jailed for killing a former soldier from South Elmsall.

John Dean Richardson 44, of Wakefield Road, Fitzwilliam, Bradley Jake Parkin, 22, of Mallard Mews, South Elmsall, Neil Brown, 29, also of Mallard Mews, and Liam Ackroyd, 22, of Bell Lane, Ackworth, were all found guilty of murdering Ian Smith after a three-week trial at Leeds Crown Court .

John Simon Richardson, 23 – son of John Dean Richardson – of Kinsley House Crescent, Fitzwilliam, had already pleaded guilty to murder.

He was jailed for 16 years and 307 days at Leeds Crown Court on Friday .

Richardson Senior was given 13 years and 124 days, Parkin received 17 years and 152 days, Brown was given 16 years and 364 days, and Ackroyd was given 15 years and 364 days.

Mr Smith, 22, of Boycott Way, South Elmsall, was attacked by the gang on Barnsley Road, South Elmsall, on February 19.
