Man died in road traffic incident

A 73-year-old man died in a road traffic collision on Saturday.

Police are appealing for witnesses following the incident, which happened on Front Street in Castleford near the junction with Rock Hill at about 6.40pm.

A Ford Fiesta, which had been travelling along Park Road from the direction of Pontefract, turned on to the mini roundabout to enter Front Street and went of control.

The 73-year-old driver was sadly confirmed to have died at the scene and officers believe he may have suffered a medical episode at the wheel.

Anyone who saw what happened is asked to contact the Major Collision Enquiry Team on 101.
