We are backing the people of South Elmsall with their calls to make Minsthorpe Lane safe for pedestrians and motorists.
And today The Express is launching its online petition to introduce a 20mph zone on the road.
We decided to act after an 11-year-old girl suffered serious head injuries when she was hit by a car on her way to school and an 85-year-old man died after being hit by a skip lorry on the same stretch of road.
Both incidents happened within less than a week.
Road safety charity Brake is also backing the campaign. It said 20mph speed limits are a proven, cost-effective way of making community streets safe.
People have been trying improve safety on the road for the past 30 years.
But now it is the time to make the road safe once and for all for all those who use it.
