FITNESS fanatics will run 13 miles carrying an eight foot long log to raise cash for charity.
The eight men will lift the 110 pound chunk of wood as they run through South Elmsall, South Kirkby, Hemsworth, Fitzwilliam and Ackworth before finishing their mammoth challenge at Pontefract Park.
This is the tenth year that organiser Glenn Whitehouse, of Waggon Lane, Upton, has held the event. This year the money raised will go towards Madison’s Dream.
The fund was set up in honour of Madison Murray, who was born with Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA), an illness that affected the motor neurons in her body.
Those with the illness have limited ability to move their muscles, which weaken and waste. Madison died last month but her family is continuing with plans to set up a sensory unit to help others with similar disorders.
Mr Whitehouse said: “I am good friends with Madison’s uncle Dean Kendall so I really wanted to help the charity.
“It was so sad what happened so we wanted to do our bit to help.”
The log run will take place on May 26, and will set off from Minsthorpe Community College.
Anyone wanting to donate or help by collecting money on the day can contact Mr Whitehouse on 07757 090036.
