Jobs to go at Poundworld head office in Normanton

Almost 100 jobs are to be axed at Poundworld's Normanton headquarters, it has been announced.

The company was put into administration last week following speculation that the chains of discount stores was in financial trouble.

More than 5,000 employees are at risk across the UK as administrators, Deloitte, search for a buyer.

However it has been confirmed that 98 staff at head office are to be made redundant.

Poundworld says it has been hit hard by plummeting footfall across the nation’s high streets.

Other major chains to have been hit include M&S, House Of Fraser, Toys R Us, Maplin, Mothercare and Carpetright, all of which are planning on reducing store numbers or have closed outright.

As well as having it’s headquarters in Normanton Indutrial Estate, there are Poundworld stores in Wakefield in The Ridings, Westgate Retail Park and Snowhill Retail Park, and on Castleford’s Carlton Street.
