Hemsworth woman Brenda Clark celebrated her 60th birthday - by getting her head shaved for charity.
Mrs Clark, of Regent Street, has raised around £1,200 for the Prince of Wales Hospice after going ahead with the hair-razing decision in front of family and friends at the Hemsworth West End Working Men’s Club last Friday.
She said: “I wanted to do something good for a charity to mark my 60th and I just thought of this - I don’t know many women my age with their hair shaved so it is a bit different.
“There are lots of charities to choose from who need help, but the hospice is local, it is a good cause and it needs so much money to keep going every year.
“I don’t have any family personally that it has helped but we all know someone who has been affected by cancer.”
The close shave was carried out by Sam Pearson and Kerrie Dean from the Hair Max hairdressing salon on Barnsley Road.
Mrs Clark is also planning to hold a raffle for the hospice and is still collecting funds from her shave.
She said: “I would like to thank the girls at Hair Max and the West End club for allowing me to do it there. “I’d also like to thank staff at Iceland for allowing us to do a collection there, local businesses which donated prizes for the raffle and all my family and friends who sponsored me. We’re still collecting the money in but I think we’re raised more than £1,200 so far.”
