Hemsworth MW celebrated winning the Toolstation NCE Division One championship in style with their 31st win from 40 league matches on Saturday.
The long time front runners came close to topping the 100 points barrier as they finished with 98 following a 3-0 success in their final game of the season at home to third-placed Bottesford Town.
Wayne Benn’s men have been a class apart throughout the season and kept their form right to the end against opponents who are heading for the newly created play-offs and could join Wells in the Premier Division next year.
In front of a bumper crowd at the MDC Stadium, Hemsworth turned on the style again and were in front after just 16 minutes through Bill Law, who has finished as top scorer.
Law doubled the lead right on the stroke of half-time with his 27th goal of the season in all competitions.
Nash Connolly, who has ended as the joint second top scorer with Danny Critchlow, took his tally to 19 for the campaign when he put the icing on the cake with a third Wells goal 11 minutes into the second half.
Hemsworth were in cruise control from that point and on their way to finishing 12 points clear of runners-up AFC Mansfield.
Hemsworth’s final league record for the season reads played 40, won 31, drawn five and lost just four, scoring an amazing 128 goals while only conceding 49.
Wells were also in action last Wednesday, winning 3-1 away to Eccleshill United.
In a tight first half Sam Jones’ 14th minute goal was all that divided the teams.
But after the break Law and skipper Jason Yates added further Hemsworth goals before Mark Trueman put away a 79th minute penalty for a consolation goal for the hosts.
