Hemsworth MW’s unbeaten start to life in the Premier Division of the Toolstation NCE League came to a shuddering halt when they lost 4-0 to early season pacesetters Cleethorpes Town last Saturday.
After four wins and a draw in their first five league games, Wayne Benn’s men found it tougher against the only team left with an unbeaten record.
Visitors Cleethorpes were ahead from the tenth minute when Brody Robertson netted.
Alexander Flett doubled the advantage on 21 minutes and it remained 2-0 to half-time.
Hemsworth looked to hit back after the break as Dom Blair saw a deflected shot saved following a great run when he beat three players. His back heel set up Adam Wilson, but he fired over.
However, hopes of a comeback were effectively ended when Jonathan Oglesby made it 3-0 on 67 minutes.
They kept battling to the finish with Luke Danville heading just wide from a corner, but conceded again just before the final whistle as Luke Aldrich netted.
Wells start their Buildbase FA Vase campaign with a first qualifying round tie at Pontefract Collieries this Saturday (3pm).
They are also in league action next Tuesday when at home to Worksop Town (7.45pm).
