Dedicated duo Carl Easton and Steve Burton have completed an epic bike ride to raise funds for a charity close to their hearts.

The Hemsworth pair cycled 187 miles from their home town to Whitby, then on to Scarborough and back to Hemsworth in two days.

Mr Easton, of Wortley Place and Mr Burton of Southmoor Road, have raised £900 for the British Heart Foundation in memory of Mr Easton’s father who died from a heart attack.

Mr Easton, 38, and Mr Burton, 31, cycled 106 miles on October 4, followed by 81 miles home the following day.

Mr Easton said: “We lost my dad 11 years ago when he had a heart attack.

“I was approaching the age my dad was when he died and I thought it was about time I did a bit more on the health and fitness side so it didn’t happen to me.

“My friend Steve and I thought it would be good to do something for the British Heart Foundation so we organised this event.

“On the first day we battled against torrential rain and I had a puncture.

“It was hard but we really enjoyed it and it was definitely worth it.

“We would like to thank each and everyone of the sponsors for donating , we really appreciate it.

“You have contributed to a very worthwhile cause which lies very close to our hearts.

“We would also like to thank Ken Colvin who was a huge help to us covering our accommodation costs. Thanks too to Ron and John Dawson who were our support team.”
