Grayson’s pointer for Frickley

Brad Grayson’s 80th minute strike earned Frickley Athletic a deserved point from their trip to The Grove to face Halesowen Town in the Evo-Stik Premier League on Saturday.

Nathaniel Waite had given the home side the lead three minutes into the second half, but Grayson salvaged a draw with 10 minutes to play.

Blues boss Karl Rose kept faith with the same side that were unfortunate to suffer defeat to league leaders Blyth Spartans in midweek and they enjoyed the better of the first half, but were unable to make the vital breakthrough.

Grayson went close in the 12th minute when he met Ross Armstrong’s right wing corner with a powerful header from inside the six-yard box, but the ball flew over the crossbar.

Luke Hinsley then saw his close range effort blocked on the line by Shaun Rowley before Jacob Hazel saw his 15-yard shot on the turn smothered by Rowley in the 38th minute.

Blues keeper Sebastian Malkowski was called on to make his first serious save on 44 minutes when he tipped an 18-yard shot by Aaron Daniels over the bar.

Halesowen looked much brighter in the second period and they took the lead three minutes into the half, Waite heading in from close range following Malcolm Melvin’s cross from the right.

Malkowski was forced to push away a low 18-yard shot from Jean-Michel Gueyes on 55 minutes before Tom Davie went agonisingly close at the other end, but his shot from the edge of the box flew inches wide following a swift Blues’ attack in the 59th minute.

Luke Hornsey came into midfield on 62 minutes with Hinsley moving up front in place of Hazel and within minutes Grayson fed Davie who saw his 20-yard shot deflected narrowly wide.

Chris Wood and Sam Akeroyd replaced Steven Jeff and Armstrong on 79 minutes and almost immediately Wood helped a ball from Louis Bruce on for Grayson to race clear and he made no mistake, firing past the advancing Rowley from just inside the box.

In the fourth minute of stoppage time Malkowski preserved the point for the Blues when he brilliantly blocked a shot from point blank range by Kaiman Anderson.

Frickley Athletic: Malkowski, Bruce, Jeff (Wood 79), Hinsley, Cyrus, Ible, Davie, Armstrong (Akeroyd 79), Hazel (Hornsey 62), Grayson, Williams. Unused subs: Parkinson, Hood.
