TWO work colleagues went the distance in scorching temperatures to raise more than £1,000 for charity.
Michael Cordall and Gary Hammond, who both work at Next, on Dale Lane Industrial Estate, South Elmsall, ran the Humber Half Marathon on Sunday, June 26, despite the heat and raised £1,017 for Cancer Research UK.
Mr Cordall, 42, of Union Street, Hemsworth, said: “I feel fantastic and very proud we completed it.
“It was tough though as it was around 30 degrees, but there was a lot of money riding on it so I just had to keep going.”
He completed the course in one hour and 53 minutes while Mr Hammond finished it in two hours and 21 minutes.
They ran in memory of fellow worker James Priestley and Mr Cordall’s uncle, Walter Cordall, who both died of cancer in January 2010, and for close friend, Lesley Sharp, of Hemsworth, who was killed by a car on the A1 in January 2011.
