Frickley Athletic are set to have their promotion ambitions further tested with back to back games against the side currently occupying the last of the play-off places.

Unusually the Blues face the same opposition in the Evo-Stik Premier League on the next two Saturdays when they take on Stourbridge, who are in fifth place following last weekend’s results.

Frickley, who stayed in tenth place despite their loss at Barwell, are at home this Saturday before travelling to play the return fixture the week after.

Karl Rose’s men are 12 points behind Stourbridge so know that realistically they have to get the better of them in the next two weeks if they are to have a chance of getting into the end of season play-offs.

Frickley, meanwhile, have been drawn away to Houghton Main or Hallam FC in the semi-finals of the Sheffield & Hallamshire Senior Cup.

Houghton and Hallam are due to play their quarter-final on Wednesday, March 9 and the semi-finals are due to be played before Saturday, April 9.

The other semi-final will see North Gawber/ Maltby Main or Shaw Lane Aquaforce take on Handsworth Parramore or Worksop Town.

The final is due to be played at Sheffield United’s Bramall Lane ground on Tuesday, April 26, with a 7.30pm kick-off. Last year Frickley won the competition in a final played at Rotherham United’s New York Stadium.
